Published on Tuesday, 18 October 2022 at 12:18:50 PM

Eligible businesses# in and around the Port Hedland International Airport and Kingsford Smith Business Park can now access nbn’s fastest business grade broadband at the same wholesale prices as those in major capital cities.

The co-investment between nbn, Town of Port Hedland and Western Australian State Government through the Regional Economic Development Grants Program now means businesses can order business grade fibre – known as Enterprise Ethernet.

Head of nbn local WA Naomi Evans said the initiative would support local innovation, business growth, job creation and education - important for the Port Hedland community.

“Businesses are increasingly using business nbn Enterprise Ethernet to support cloud-based business operations, remote file storage, content hosting, unified communications, large file distribution, and to connect head office locations##,” she said.

“For business nbn Enterprise Ethernet customers, we are helping to level the playing field in Port Hedland and ensuring that more businesses throughout regional Australia in more locations can participate in the digital economy on an equal broadband access footing with metro-based businesses.

“This demonstrates our ongoing commitment to regional Australian businesses.”

Town of Port Hedland Acting Chief Executive, Craig Watts, said the Council was proud to invest in internet infrastructure to support improved ways of doing business.

“This internet service will give businesses similar connectivity to those located in metropolitan regions,” Craig said.

“Any opportunity we have to give businesses a boost and improve the way they do businesses is significant.

“The Town has firm objectives to develop the Hedland economy. Ensuring we have the infrastructure that businesses need to operate effectively helps us achieve this vision of a strong, diversified, economy.”

Acting Chief Executive Officer of the Pilbara Development Commission, Trish Barron, said the joint initiative was positive for Hedland.

“The Commission is thrilled to see this project launch in Port Hedland. The RED Grants program aims to boost investment in regional projects that contribute to population and economic growth initiatives, and importantly, are driven by the community.

“Congratulations to the Town of Port Hedland and nbn Co. for working together to support local business performance in the area.”

nbn Enterprise Ethernet is the fastest symmetrical wholesale product available, with a 99.95 per cent network availability uptime target, helping to reduce business downtime*.

All Enterprise Ethernet services are managed by a dedicated team that understands Australian businesses, providing business connection and assurance support 24/7.

Notes

# business nbn™ Enterprise Ethernet is only available in the nbn™ Fixed Line network footprint and at limited premises served by the nbn™ Fixed Wireless and Satellite networks. Costs may apply; customers should contact their preferred service provider to ask about availability and any fees and charges that may be applicable.

## An end customer’s experience, including the speeds actually achieved over the nbn™ network, depends on some factors outside our control (like their equipment quality, software, and how their retail service provider designs its network). If your service provider has not selected the 'Class of Service – High', the speeds you experience may be affected by contention on the nbn™ network, particularly in busy periods.

*nbn is a wholesaler and does not control costs charged by service providers. Customers should contact their preferred provider to ask about availability and any fees and charges from their provider that may be applicable. These pricing offers are not available for most premises in the nbn™ Fixed Wireless or Satellite footprints or for most premises which have complex connections – further costs are likely to apply to these premises.
