Published on Thursday, 24 October 2019 at 9:24:48 AM

Time is running out for community members to nominate a local in next year’s Community Citizen of the Year.

The Community Citizen of the Year nomination window closes next Thursday 31 October at 5:00pm and prize money of $1000 is available for the successful recipients.

The specific categories are:

  • Community Citizen of the Year – Sponsored by Roy Hill
  • Community Citizen of the Year (Youth) – Sponsored by Itochu Australia
  • Community Citizen of the Year (Senior) – Sponsored by Port Hedland RSL
  • Active Citizenship (Group or Event) – Sponsored by Horizon Power

Hon. Commissioner Fred Riebeling said the awards were an opportunity for those who make sacrifices in their life to be recognised and rewarded.

“We have no shortage of local heroes in our community who contribute in areas such as education, health, fund-raising, charitable and voluntary services, business, sport, arts, the environment and social inclusion.

“Last year we rewarded a diverse cross-section of nominees, including Rowan Dann, who was recently in the news for his suicide-prevention awareness walk.

“We all know someone who has dedicated untold hours to make Hedland a better place to live, work and visit. We don’t want those people to miss out on being recognised so encourage people to send their nominations in soon.”

The winners of the prizes will be honoured in an event on Australia Day 2020.
