Nominations are now open for the 2022 Town of Port Hedland and BHP Community Sports Awards, recognising and celebrating the talent, ambition and sportspersonship of participants and clubs from across Hedland.

Award categories include Junior Sportswoman of the Year; Junior Sportsman of the Year; Sporting Group of the Year; Umpire/Official of the Year; Sportsman of the Year; Sportswoman of the Year; Coach of the Year; Volunteer of the Year and the new category, Service to Sport.

Categories recognise the breadth of talent across local sporting codes and clubs, shining a spotlight on sporting leaders who contribute to community life.

Mayor Peter Carter encouraged residents to nominate an exceptional contributor to local sports before the close of nominations on Monday 19 September 2022.

“The Town of Port Hedland and BHP Community Sports Awards are an opportunity to celebrate the sporting achievements of the year, recognising the invaluable contributions sport makes in connecting our vibrant community.

“This year we’ve introduced a new category of Service to Sport, which recognises length of service to sports or the community; the number of sporting organisations engaged over time; demonstrated contribution to the sport or industry and demonstrated achievement or legacy as a result of involvement.

“I encourage everyone to think of someone, or a club or organisation, who has made a quality contribution to our sporting community over the past year.
