Published on Thursday, 29 October 2020 at 4:26:17 PM

Community members are encouraged to nominate a young person in the 2021 Community Citizen of the Year Awards – Youth Category, recognising the positive impact those under 25 make in Hedland.

The 2021 Hedland Awards are made possible by Horizon Power, ITOCHU Minerals & Energy Australia, the Port Hedland RSL and Roy Hill.

Outstanding contribution and service may be in the areas of education, health, fundraising, charitable and voluntary services, business, sport, arts, the environment, social inclusion or any other area that contributes to the advancement and wellbeing of the community.

The 2020 category winner was Brandon Herwig, in recognition of his work regenerating e-waste for transformative environmental and social outcomes.

Mayor Peter Carter encouraged local residents to think about a young person in their life who contributes to the community.

“Hedland is home to vibrant young people who are actively involved in school, extra-curricular activities, community organisations, businesses and more, contributing to our town’s spirit.

“Perhaps you know someone under 25 who demonstrates exemplary leadership qualities, supports and encourages others, demonstrates innovative thinking or goes above and beyond the call of duty.
