New citizens from diverse corners of the world were welcomed to the Australian community at today’s Town Citizenship Ceremony, with special guests the Hon. Stephen Dawson MLC and Hon. Kevin Michel MLA.

After making their pledge, the new Australians were called up to receive their Citizenship Certificate and receive a gift to celebrate the occasion.

The group of 29 new citizens originate from Pakistan, the United Kingdom, Philippines, India, New Zealand, South Africa, El Salvador, Afghanistan and Columbia.

Hon. Commissioner Fred Riebeling AM JP reflected on the invaluable contributions of people from around the world who decide to call Australia home.

“I’d like to congratulate the 29 people who took the pledge and became Australian citizens today at the Town’s Citizenship Ceremony.

“It’s wonderful to live in a country and a community which is enriched by other cultures, coming together to celebrate our cherished values of democracy and freedom.

“Particularly during the recent challenges we’ve faced as a country, it’s invaluable to be able to reflect on the rights and responsibilities of Australian Citizenship and value our good fortune as a country.

“Now more than ever, we must come together as a community and support each other, working side by side to build a brighter Australia.”
