Innovation Boost for Regional WA – Vital for Future Growth

Published: Friday, 9 March 2018 at 12:00:00 AM

Innovation, diversification and job creation across regional Western Australia are at the forefront of the State Government’s announcement of a $4.5 million launch of a New Industries Fund.

With a focus on small to medium enterprises (SME), start-ups and the transformation of existing businesses, the funding boost will focus on inter-regional projects that drive collaboration and job creation in areas such as technology, cyber-security, tourism and education.

Regions will also be able to establish an innovation partnership to identify strategic projects that have the greatest potential to grow regional communities.

Submissions will be assessed by an independent panel who will make recommendations to the State Government on funding allocation.

According to Port Hedland Mayor, Camilo Blanco, flexibility and staying at the cutting-edge of technology is vital for the future of Port Hedland’s business community.

“We need to get smart about the way we’re positioning ourselves for future growth and build on our competitive advantages.

“Port Hedland is already a global innovation hub and the opportunities for small and large businesses to flourish, are unlimited.

“Diversification, flexibility and thinking outside the box are key to future success.

“Working collaboratively is key to unlocking the potential right here on our doorstep.

“We welcome this focus on job creation and I encourage all businesses to get on board.”

Businesses can register to join a Regional Innovation Partnership at Regional briefings will be held over the coming months.
