Hedland’s sporting legends recognised at 2021 Town and BHP Community Sports Awards

Hedland’s sporting legends were recognised at last night’s 2021 Town and BHP Community Sports Awards, celebrating local talent, ambition and sportsmanship.

These Awards were made possible by Presenting Partner BHP and Award Sponsors ITOCHU, Mammoet and Pilbara Ports Authority.

The Awards delivered on the Town’s commitment to foster an inclusive and involved community, with well utilised and valued facilities.

An independent panel of judges assessed nominees from a range of codes, some of whom have been involved in local clubs for a number of years.

Mayor Peter Carter congratulated all the evening’s winners and nominees.

“I’d like to congratulate Corona, Damien, Izzy, Sam, Taj, Relma, Tracy, Jason and Hedland BMX for being this year’s winners in the 2021 Town and BHP Community Sports Awards.

“Congratulations to all the nominees in this year’s awards for demonstrating exemplary sportsmanship and community spirit which strengthens our town. 

“Sporting organisations make Hedland an active, welcoming and liveable town, working tirelessly throughout the year and putting in countless volunteer hours.

“Thank you to Presenting Partner BHP and Award Sponsors ITOCHU, Mammoet and Pilbara Ports Authority for making the 2021 community sports awards possible.”

•    Pilbara Ports Authority Sportsman of the Year - Damien Stewart
•    ITOCHU Junior Sportswoman of the Year - Izzy van de Worp
•    ITOCHU Junior Sportsman of the Year - Sam Langford
•    Official/Umpire of the Year - Taj Brittain
•    Coach of the Year - Relma Bule-Turner
•    Volunteer of the Year - Tracy Pickett & Jason Langford (joint winners)
•    Sporting Group of the Year – Hedland BMX
