Hedland steps up to reduce cyclone season risks

Published on Thursday, 17 September 2020 at 8:49:36 AM

The Town has completed the 2020 pre-cyclone season green waste clean-up, with Hedland based businesses, organisations and households all pitching in to reduce the risks of flying debris during cyclonic weather events.

The Town’s contractors delivered 142 tonnes of green waste in 150 loads to landfill, on the back of six-wheeler trucks. The collection was completed over 13 days.

This initiative is part of the Town’s commitment to reduce the risk of green waste becoming airborne in cyclones, which can cause widespread property damage in severe cases.

Hon. Commissioner Fred Riebeling AM JP thanked the community for participating and following the Town’s messaging.

“I’m sure there’s lots of yards looking sharp and spring cleaned following this year’s annual pre-cylcone season clean up, which collected kerbside palm fronds, tree loppings and branches across the LGA.

“I’d like to thank businesses, organisations and households for putting in the work to reduce their property’s green waste, cumulatively disposing of 142 tonnes of green waste – you’ve all contributed to a safer cyclone season.”

Please be advised, due to the 2020 green waste clean-up concluding, all green waste must now be disposed of at the South Hedland Landfill.
