Hedland comes together to recognise Mental Health Week

Published on Thursday, 8 October 2020 at 2:59:08 PM

Hedland based residents, businesses and community groups will come together from Monday 12 to Friday 16 October 2020 to recognise Mental Health Week.

This year’s WA Mental Health Week theme is Strengthening Our Community – Live, Learn, Work, Play, aiming to increase mental wellbeing in WA communities.

COVID-19 and its associated restrictions have increased stress and mental health challenges faced by all Australians this year. Financial pressures, travel restrictions and uncertainty about the future have been contributing factors.

The Week aims to boost mental wellbeing by encouraging community members to support and look out for one another, promoting mental health literacy and self-care tips and raising awareness of mental health issues and reducing stigma associated with seeking support.

Hon. Commissioner Fred Riebeling AM JP said the Town is committed to raising awareness of mental health and wellbeing in the community.

“I’d like to thank the Hedland community for coming together to recognise Mental Health Week, a time to recognise the importance of supporting our neighbours through tough times and reaching out to seek help.

“From Monday 12 to Friday 16 October, the Town will partner with local organisations to deliver a range of valuable workshops and events to reduce mental health stigmas and start conversations. These include a sex abuse prevention workshop, protective behaviours youth workshop and more.”
