Have your say on the proposed Town of Port Hedland Waste Local Law 2020

Council has endorsed advertising the proposed Town of Port Hedland Waste Local Law 2020 for a period of six weeks, as it moves closer to the delivery of a kerbside recycling service in Hedland in 2021.

Council has also authorised the CEO to submit a copy of the proposed Town of Port Hedland Waste Local Law 2020 to the WA Minister for Local Government and the WA Minister for Environment.

Following public consultation, the Town intends to rescind the Town of Port Hedland Waste Local Law 2018, with the 2020 law inserting a provision relating to kerbside recycling.

The Town has procured Cleanaway to provide a kerbside recycling service, which is intended to commence once a suitable transfer station is acquired or constructed, and a recyclables receivable facility is constructed.

Hon. Commissioner Fred Riebeling AM JP encouraged all community stakeholders to view the proposed law and submit any feedback they may have.

“I’m pleased Council has endorsed the advertising of the proposed Town of Port Hedland Waste Local Law 2020 for a period of six weeks, which will give the community the opportunity to peruse the law and submit their feedback.

“Once this law if formally adopted, it will regulate and control recyclable waste collected in the kerbside recycling which will become a standard service in the Port Hedland LGA in the future, making us a more sustainable and environmentally conscious town.

“Strategically, the Town is committed to sustainable energy, waste and water management practices, a commitment which drives our pursuit of a kerbside recycling and collection service.

“The feedback which is obtained in this six week period will be taken into consideration when the Town of Port Hedland Waste Local Law 2020 is adopted later in the year."
