Have your say on the proposed Sutherland Street Shared Path Extensions

Published on Friday, 7 May 2021 at 9:39:30 AM

The Town is seeking community input for the proposed Sutherland Street Shared Path Extension, which intends to provide better pedestrian and cyclist connection for the whole Hedland community.

The proposed Path will connect Port Hedland’s West End to the Spoilbank Marina precinct, providing a number of social, economic and environmental benefits.

Council decided to defer any action on the proposed Path until further community consultation had been undertaken.

An online community survey has been developed, inviting all stakeholders to submit their feedback on the proposed path.

A number of in-person focus groups are also taking place for Kingsmill Street residents.

Mayor Peter Carter encouraged local residents to participate in the consultation period to ensure their views shaped the proposed Path’s future.

“I understand many residents have concerns about the proposed Sutherland Street Shared Path Extension, which is why Council decided to defer any decision on the future of the proposed Path until further community consultation had been undertaken.

“It’s important for Council decisions to reflect the community’s views, especially when it comes to changes to the built environment around properties.

“We’re running a mixture of in-person and online surveys this month so that we can gauge a cross section of views on the proposal, which will give us an accurate perspective on how we should move forward.

“I’d like to thank the community for their patience on this issue, and I look forward to Council revisiting the proposal and determining its merits later in the year.”
