Community members are invited to have a say on the Draft Creative Hedland Arts and Culture Strategy 2019-2022, which is open for public comment until Tuesday 30 June.
The Strategy has been informed by 860 direct community and stakeholder responses, identifying key areas of focus to evolve Hedland’s arts and cultural scene.
These responses were the result of the Live it, Tell it, Creative Hedland engagement campaign in April 2019, which involved an online survey, pop up stalls, workshops and social media polls.
Growing the creative industries, supporting community participation in creative life and celebrating Hedland’s unique place in the heart of the Pilbara are all aims of the strategy.
Hon. Commissioner Fred Riebling encouraged local residents to peruse the draft document and provide any points of feedback.
“For the first time, we have a real blueprint on how we are going to foster the creative industries in the 2020's to reflect the wishes of locals and craft a vibrant, livable town.
“Key insights have been identified in the strategy, including unique ‘points of prides’ in town and ways to amplify local participation and engagement in the arts.
“There are four broad areas of focus covered by the strategy, which are then broken down into outcomes and priorities which can be actioned and implemented.
“Importantly, actions are clearly outlined and prioritised, providing future Elected Members and Officers with the necessary framework to make strategic decisions.
“I look forward to viewing the feedback received and seeing how it strengthens the final strategy.”
