Have a Try Night Kicks Goals for Health and Fitness

Published on Thursday, 28 February 2019 at 12:58:01 PM

Have a Try Night is back for 2019, running from 4.15pm to 6pm on Friday 29 March at Wanangkura Stadium and Kevin Scott Oval.

The night is a favourite on the Hedland calendar, providing young people ages 5 to 17 the opportunity to try out a cross section of sporting codes.

Mayor Camilo Blanco welcomed the event’s return, pointing to its success in raising the profile of sporting clubs in town.

“It’s important to support young people’s participation in sporting activities, as it’s a way to drive healthy and active lifestyles.

“More than ever, the spotlight is on finding ways to work in more physical activity into our daily routines.

“Studies have shown that sports participation improves social development, team work and motor skills in young people.

“Registered young people will be able to try out different sports, from cricket to motorcycle cross and everything in between, which they can then sign on to if they’re keen.

“The night is important for our sporting clubs by raising awareness and helping to increase membership numbers for the coming year.

“Registration is essential for planning, so please submit a form for each child which is attending.

“I also encourage everyone who’s attending to bring a water bottle, sunscreen, and towel, and wear appropriate active wear with closed in shoes."

Please meet by 4.15pm on 29 March at Wanangkura Stadium if you’re attending.
