Gratwick Aquatic Centre to reopen this weekend

Published on Wednesday, 11 December 2019 at 3:36:56 PM

Gratwick Aquatic Centre (GAC) will reopen to the public this Saturday, 14 December at 8am.

GAC was closed on Thursday, 28 November after the Town received a false-positive reading of Naegleria fowleri from water tests.

Hon. Commissioner Fred Riebeling welcomed the reopening of GAC to the Hedland community.

“This has been a challenging time for the Town and the community, with excitement for the pool’s initial reopening cut short by the false-positive reading of Naegleria fowleri

“Extensive water testing has determined the pool is safe for the public’s use.

“Despite the false positive reading, I stand by the decision to close the facility on Thursday 28 November due to the safety of the community being the Town’s priority.

“Community members can rest assured that water tests have confirmed the absence of all amoebas, so I encourage everyone to come along to cool off from this Saturday.”
