Food Businesses Reminded of Food Safety

Published on Thursday, 6 February 2020 at 1:35:13 PM

With cyclonic weather predicted to impact Port Hedland over the coming days, local food businesses are reminded of the risks to food safety that may arise, particularly those caused by power outages.

The Town urges food businesses to ensure that time and temperature control of food is maintained, and where this cannot be ensured, that any unsafe food is disposed of.

The 2-hour / 4-hour rule may be used to ensure safety of food that has been out of temperature control:

Total time that food is between 5˚C and 60˚C:

  • Under 2 hours – Okay to use or refrigerate at 5˚C or less
  • From 2 to 4 hours – Okay to use immediately, but cannot return to the fridge
  • Over 4 hours – Dispose of the food

For more information, please contact the Town’s Environmental Health Officers on 9158 9300.
