The next Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Consultation Forum will be used to begin consultation on a review of the Town of Port Hedland’s 2016-2019 Reconciliation Action Plan (RAP).
The forum, to be held on Tuesday 26 November from 9:00am – 11:00am at Lotteries House, South Hedland, will allow community members to contribute to the ongoing conversation.
The Town’s first RAP was developed three years ago and set out specific actions for the organisation. The outcomes of these actions will be discussed at the forum, and will be used to inform the new RAP.
Hon Commissioner Fred Riebeling said the RAP will guide how the Town shows respect, builds relationships and provides opportunities to the local Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander community.
“The RAP is a continuum of previous dialogues and motions between the Town, the Kariyarra, Ngarla and Nyamal people and the wider community.
“Our RAP sets a pathway to apply a partnered approach for land management, equity, access to culturally appropriate services and also a space to implement and achieve innovative and sustainable targets.
“I encourage as many representatives as possible from across Hedland to attend, as your voice will influence how we make positive changes in the community.”
