The Town of Port Hedland will welcome fifty new citizens at citizenship ceremonies at the Civic Centre, this Friday 17 September 2021.
The conferees from fifteen countries, including the Philippines, Zimbabwe, Britain, New Zealand, Mauritius, Denmark, Malawi, Federal Republic of Germany, India, Nigeria, Thailand, South Africa, Republic of Yemen, Vietnam and Taiwan, will become Australian citizens as part of two ceremonies to be held in Gratwick Hall at the Civic Centre.
Town of Port Hedland CEO, Carl Askew, said the ceremony was an opportunity for all Australians, whether they are citizens by birth or by choice, to join the citizenship celebrations.
“All of our community are encouraged to celebrate these ceremonies and to share what Australian citizenship means to them.
“There is no greater privilege than our citizenship. It’s a life-long commitment to Australia’s shared values, including respect for the freedom and dignity of the individual, the rule of law and democracy, and equality of opportunity for all people.
“Australian citizenship ceremonies are an important part of our local government’s celebrations and hold special significance for those becoming citizens and the broader local community.
“COVID-19 guidelines on hotspot restrictions, gathering sizes and social distancing resulted in fewer citizenship ceremonies than usual in 2020, so it’s pleasing to see two ceremonies planned for this week welcoming fifty new citizens.
“Each year we are privileged to welcome new Australians to our growing community as part of these citizenship ceremonies.
“I encourage everyone in the community to reflect on and affirm their Australian citizenship as we warmly welcome our newest citizens.”
