Diversity on Display as New Aussies Welcomed

Published on Wednesday, 18 September 2019 at 10:53:21 AM

Coinciding with Australian Citizenship Day, 32 new Australians gathered on the lawns of the Civic Centre to be sworn in as citizens by the Hon. Commissioner Fred Riebeling and Local MP Kevin Michel MLA.

After making their pledge, the new Australians were called up to receive their Citizenship Certificate and gifted a desert rose pot plant.

The group of 32 hailed from ten different countries – Thailand, Philippines, Bangladesh, China, Northern Ireland, India, South Africa, Britain, Seychelles and Vietnam.

Hon. Commissioner Fred Riebeling told the group that they would leave the ceremony with a fresh set of rights and responsibilities as Australians.

“It was an honour to welcome such a diverse group of people into the community as Australian citizens.”

“It was also an excellent reminder for existing Australians what a privilege it is to be a part of this country with the rights we are afforded.”
