Council has approved amendments to the Planning Application 2011/308.02 on Lot 2 & 3 Great Northern Highway, effectively green lighting significant planned upgrades for The Landing Resort site.

Original planning approval for the site was granted in November 2011 to transform the previous caravan park. The applicant is now able to upgrade the existing facility and install a second stage of accommodation.

Planned upgrades include the construction of 352 new motel rooms, an incidental office block, three shops fronting the Highway, additional car parking and an aluminium screen with Aboriginal artwork fronting the Highway.

Mayor Peter Carter welcomed Council’s approval for amendments to the Planning Application.

“With Hedland on a trajectory of growth, it’s important for our town to have a built environment which can support increasing numbers of tourists and people looking for short stay accommodation into the future.

“The Landing Resort is a critical facility servicing our community, as well as tourism operators.

“The Town is committed to growing the region’s economy and tourism potential in the years ahead, so we welcome efforts to expand accommodation capacity and amenity in the local government area.”
