Celebrate our fantastic lifestyle on Australia Day 2021

Published on Tuesday, 5 January 2021 at 10:20:45 AM

The Hedland community is invited to celebrate Australia Day on Tuesday, 26 January 2021 for a range of family activities throughout the day.

The BHP Community Pool Party will take place at South Hedland Aquatic Centre from 2pm to 5pm. The Party will be free entry and feature a free barbecue, DJ and activities such as pool inflatables and water bomb competitions. Attendees are encouraged to come along dressed as their favourite ‘Aussie legend’, with spot prizes given out on the day for best dressed.

The Pilbara Port Authority Fireworks Spectacular will take place at Kevin Scott Oval from 5:30pm to 8:30pm, featuring live music, a DJ, food vans, family friendly activities and a fireworks display starting at 8:00pm.

AUS Traffic Management will be providing in-kind support for the traffic management services in the community for the Fireworks Spectacular event. More detailed programming and traffic management information for the two events will be released closer to the date.

All attendees are asked to help keep Hedland COVID Safe by covering coughs and sneezes with elbows, keeping hands washed and sanitised, maintaining physical distancing at all times and not attending if you are unwell.

The day’s programming is part of the Town’s commitment to provide diverse community events for all ages to enjoy throughout the year.

Mayor Peter Carter encourages local residents to mark their calendars and come along to the Town’s Australia Day events.

“I’d like to thank BHP for making the Community Pool Party possible and Pilbara Ports Authority for enabling us to hold the Fireworks Spectacular, together with AUS Traffic Management for providing traffic management services on the day, ensuring the safety of the Hedland community.  Both events are accessible for the whole family to enjoy.

“Pool Party attendees can cool off from the Pilbara Summer, celebrating the great lifestyle we get to enjoy in regional WA. After a break, head on over to Kevin Scott Oval as the night sky lights for the Fireworks Spectacular!

“Australia Day is about coming together as a community and celebrating what makes our country and region a great place to live, reflecting on our cultural diversity and being thankful for the opportunities we can all pursue.”
