Building better roads in Wedgefield

Published on Saturday, 12 June 2021 at 12:00:00 PM

The community is advised that works to reconstruct the Draper / Moorambine intersection in the Wedgefield Industrial Precinct will commence on Monday 14 June, with a projected completion time at the beginning of July 2021.

These works are a result of the Town receiving funding from the WA Main Roads Commodity Routes Fund, enabling the delivery of the Wedgefield Masterplan Route 1 Development.

The reconstruction works will raise the precinct’s road standards to meet WA Main Roads’ Restricted Access Vehicle requirements, correct pavement defects and address drainage issues within the precinct.

The Town’s Heavy Vehicle Access Strategy also recommends investment in the road network to better support heavy vehicle transportation.

Subsequent upgrade sites will take place throughout Moorambine, Yanana, Schillaman and Peawah.

Mayor Peter Carter welcomed the Town moving forward on delivering the Wedgefield Masterplan Route 1 Development.

“The Town is working with DeGrey Civil Pty. Ltd. to reconstruct the Draper / Moorambine intersection in the Wedgefield Industrial Precinct in June, part of our commitment to build better roads in Wedgefield.

“Wedgefield is a critical industrial area, supporting operations across the local economy such as manufacturing, logistics, transport and more.

“Council and I are committed to delivering a high standard of road connectivity and amenity to the precinct, recognising its role in supporting growth, investment and job creation in Hedland.

“I’d like to thank WA Main Roads for granting the Town funding through the Community Routes Fund to support our delivery of the Wedgefield Masterplan Route 1 Development.”

Please be mindful of signage, workers and machinery in the vicinity of works.
