Brand new playground set to be installed at the Gratwick Aquatic and Fitness Centre

An Active Discovery Playground with improved accessibility and features will begin to be installed at the Gratwick Aquatic and Fitness Centre from Monday 16 November, with installation projected to take four to five weeks.

The new playground will be fully shaded and offer a number of new exploratory elements for children to discover. Littlies will be able to take a ride on Frankie the Fish, explore the ocean with a crew on their own ship and discover Hedland’s elusive fairy penguin.

The installation is part of the Town’s playground renewal program detailed in the annual budget, with the objective to improve usability and accessibility.

This is the latest upgrade to the Gratwick Aquatic and Fitness Centre, which has included a refurbished gym, more poolside shade areas, upgraded filtration, strengthened pool structural integrity, exterior refurbishments and more.

Mayor Peter Carter said the installation was part of a broader commitment by the Town to upgrade Hedland’s built environment for local families.

“The brand new Active Discovery Playground at the Gratwick Aquatic and Fitness Centre is the latest upgrade for the Town’s flagship fitness facility, a place where everyone can reach their health and fitness goals.

“Children will be able discover new and exciting features, with expanded accessibility delivering a more inclusive play space to enjoy.

“More shade keeps the space sun safety, protecting little ones from the harsh Pilbara sun.”

Community members are asked to please be mindful of workers in the vicinity for the duration of the installation, obey signage and do not enter construction zones.
