Key infrastructure projects, more transparency and significant community engagement were among several highlights documented in the 2017/18 Annual Report.
Adopted at the February Ordinary Council Meeting, the Report demonstrates how the Town has met and exceeded strategic objectives in 2017/18.
Mayor Camilo Blanco welcomed the adoption, commenting on the Town’s improvements in recent times.
“Since 2017, we have course corrected the Town’s direction to reflect the priorities of locals whilst exercising fiscal restraint.
“Highlights in 2017/18 include adopting our Strategic Community Plan, reforming procurement, addressing historical infrastructure needs and prioritising community engagement and transparency to name a few.
“We undertook the largest engagement exercise in our Town’s history, collecting over 5,800 responses as part of the Live it, Tell it survey.
“We also processed 13 years of tyre stockpiles at South Hedland Landfill, and renewed our parks, roads and footpaths.
“I was proud to deliver a rating strategy which resulted in 91% of residential rate payers receiving a rates reduction, achieving uniformity and equity.
“The included financial report has been independently audited and details how the Town is committed to financial viability, prudency and balanced accounts.
“I encourage community members to peruse the Report to get a better picture of how Local Government works in Hedland.”
The Adoption of the Report is in accordance with section 5.53 of the Local Government Act 1995.
