The Port Hedland Courthouse Gallery is honored to present the first solo exhibition of one of the most popular prize winners from the 2018 Hedland Art Awards, Corban Clause William’s, in conjunction with Martumili Artists.
Corbans family is from Jigalong, but he has grown up in Newman, and lives there today.
Corban paints about his Nyamu (Grandfather’s) Country, Kaalpa (Well 23 on the Canning Stock Route).
His exquisite paintings, which are already highly-sought after internationally depict important landmarks of Country and demonstrate Corban as an exciting new voice in the contemporary tradition of Martu art.
Showing alongside Corban’s Kaalpa exhibition a group show by the Spinifex Hill Artists.
6722 celebrates the unique identity of South Hedland. The centrepiece of the show will be an experimental all-inclusive map of the suburb the SHA artists call home, proving an opportunity for the Studios’ young and emerging artists to collaborate with its senior makers.
Please join us at the Port Hedland Courthouse Gallery on Friday, May 17 at 6-8pm for the official opening of these two exhibitions.
Members and Friends of The Gallery please join us for a preview of the exhibition at 5:30pm.
