Volunteer Seasonal Caretaker
Love volunteering, camping, meeting new people and supporting
the community? The Volunteer Seasonal Caretaker role at the Town of
Port Hedland might be the perfect way for you to enjoy a warm and
purposeful winter.
During the Australian winter, travel in the north of Western
Australia is at a premium. To assist people accessing the Port
Hedland region, the Town of Port Hedland facilitates access to the
RV overflow camp site on McGregor Street. This area enables people
to park their RVs and other vehicles for accommodation purposes.
The Town relies on volunteer/s who are staying at the RV overflow
to welcome new campers, keep watch and report to the Town if there
are any issues that need to be addressed.
The assistance required as the Voluntary Seasonal Caretaker at
our RV area is very much a customer orientated kind of assistance.
If you like having a chat then you will be in your element. You are
not expected to be on duty all day every day; after all you are on
vacation with some voluntary work for the Town thrown in.
From time to time, the Town will require assistance from you as
Voluntary Seasonal Caretaker to help with the following tasks
during the Season:
- Welcome new campers, allocate camp locations if required
and monitor overcrowding,
- Liaise with Town officers Monitor illegal camping and
over-stayers,
- Report litter and campsite conditions after departure,
- Report problems, issues, complaints or concerns,
- Meet the Team Leader Rangers at the Town once a week or as
required to discuss any concerns,
- Provide information regarding fires, fishing, rules,
regulations and policies, and
- Enjoy yourselves and get plenty of down time.
It would be expected that the caretaker be contactable at least
2hrs in the morning for check-outs and 2hrs in the evening for
check-ins or as per agreed with the Team Leader Rangers. The actual
times will be left to the discretion of the caretaker and based on
people movements. Volunteer/s will need to provide a recent
National Police Clearance and Working With Children check.
As the Voluntary Seasonal Caretaker you will be assisting the
Town on a voluntary basis. To support you during this volunteer
opportunity:
- You can stay on site free of charge for the season.
- Power and potable water connections.
- You will be reimbursed for approved out of pocket expenses
whilst under this arrangement (to a maximum of $200/week).
