Boy & Bear have made waves in the Australian music scene since their formation in 2009, which was shortly followed by the release of their EP With Emperor Antarctica.

The band’s position in the music industry was firmly cemented in 2011 after their debut album Moonfire reached platinum sales, won Boy & Bear five ARIA awards and saw three songs make it to triple j’s Hottest 100 of 2011.

August 2013 marked the release of Boy & Bear’s highly anticipated sophomore album Harlequin Dream, which debuted at #1 on the ARIA Albums Chart, spent five consecutive weeks in the top 10 and has since gone Platinum.

The band also received ARIA nominations for Best Group, Best Rock Album, and Producer of the Year with Wayne Connolly; as well as a J Award nomination for Australian Album of the Year. Singles ‘Southern Sun’ and ‘Harlequin Dream’ both made it into the 2013 Hottest 100 countdown, taking the 41st and 55th spots.

 Between October 2013 and December 2014, Boy & Bear completed three world tours and 167 live shows, including a performance on Conan O’Brian and two sold out consecutive Sydney Opera House shows. As a result, the band received an ARIA nomination for Best Australian Live Act for the 2014 annual awards ceremony.

 Early 2015 saw Boy & Bear head over to the UK to record their third album at Peter Gabriel’s Real World Studios with producer Ethan Johns. The album was recorded live, straight to tape with virtually no overdubs. Released in October 2015, Limit Of Love debuted at #1 on the ARIA Albums Chart, making it Boy & Bear’s second consecutive number one debut.

The band has been hard at work throughout 2016 as they toured across Australia, America and Europe before releasing a Tour Edition of the Limit Of Love album recorded at The Hordern Pavilion earlier in the year. They also teamed up with the team at the Akasha Brewing Company to create their own brew called All Australian Ale (AAA). This beer was exclusively available at the shows on their 2016 regional Australia tour with all proceeds going towards the charity ‘Buy A Bale’ helping to support rural Australian communities and farmers.

To cap off the year the band has been nominated for a 2016 ARIA for ‘Best Rock Band’.


Lovers of great Australian rock n roll, listen up! Hot on the heals of a cracking run of shows in vineyards across the country, Spiderbait are preparing to hit the road again in March & April 2017, playing headline dates in Melbourne, Sydney, Perth, Brisbane, Adelaide and Hobart. And it’s not your usual date with the ‘Bait!
This time around, Kram, Whitt and Janet will be throwing it back to 1996, playing their third and most celebrated album, the seminal ‘Ivy and the Big Apples’, in its entirety. Fans can expect all 16 tracks from start to finish including some songs that have never been played live before.
20 years ago, ‘Ivy and the Big Apples’ earned its title after elderly Finley local Ivy Matheson won a local gardening competition with her lovely apples. When reported in the Southern Riverina News the headline read “Ivy and the Big Apples”.
Just like Ivy’s orchard, this album is packed full of blue ribbon treats, with Spiderbait delivering the best of their infamous and irresistible brand of pop-rock.
The album became home to the chart-topping track ‘Buy Me A Pony’, which rocketed to the coveted #1 spot in the 1996 triple j Hottest 100, a feat that had NEVER before been achieved by an Australian band. Then came ‘Calypso’, which featured in the nation-wide Top Ten and on the soundtrack of the cult classic film ‘10 Things I Hate About You’.
“When Buy Me A Pony won the triple J Hottest 100 on Australia Day 1997, making us the first Australian band to do so, I remember feeling not only happy for the band, but happy for us Australian music lovers who now regarded their own just as highly as they rated anything from overseas.” said Whitt.
It was a landmark moment in Australian music history, and throughout the 20 years since, Spiderbait have torn through the gamut of Australia's biggest and most iconic festivals including Splendour in the Grass, Falls Festival, A Day on the Green, Party in the Paddock, Big Day Out, Homebake, Meredith and Livid (to name a few).
Their last two headline tours have completely sold out and this time they are packin’ their most requested tracks!


Following the release of ‘Private’, which scored over 2 million streams worldwide, incandescent singer-songwriter Vera Blue releases her arresting new single, ‘Mended’, and announces dates for a major national album tour this July through September.  Her three previous Australian headline tours all sold out and tickets to the upcoming ‘Mended’ tour are expected to go just as fast. The nakedly honest ballad was premiered yesterday on triple j’s Drive show with Veronica and Lewis, and details the aftermath of an intense relationship. ‘Mended’ was penned with longtime collaborators Andy and Thom Mak (Boy and Bear, Winterbourne, Bertie Blackman) and marks the beginning of a new sonic and personal journey for Vera Blue.

“‘Mended’ is a very special song,” she says. “It was about a relationship that I had a few years ago. It had been a little while since we’d ended it and we hadn’t made amends, said we were sorry. It’s funny because you think the song is going to be about resolution, but we haven’t quite made it there yet.”

“She doesn’t put songs out that don’t come from her heart,” adds co-writer Andy Mak, “so I wanted to make sure we captured the rawness and emotion of the lyrics in the way the song was produced. We wrote the song in a couple of hours and recorded a vocal and acoustic and then built the production around that. When Thom and Celia are in the zone the songs can flow really quickly.”

Born from a Malibu writing session during Vera Blue’s first American trip in 2016, ‘Mended’ sees the 23-year- old expressing a raw emotion in her music which now comes naturally. From its sparse opening, it blossoms into a gorgeous torch ballad well overdue for such a powerful and unique voice.

“I like relating to people and making them feel what I feel. It’s where I’ve grown to as an artist,” she says. “That vulnerability is very special in music, being able to open up to your listeners is incredibly important.”

Intensely personal, ‘Mended’ is a song that Vera Blue has been waiting to share with her fans for a long time. It’s got big notes, to be sure, but it comes from an even bigger heart. “I just love it. I love performing it and can’t wait to give it to the world and let them feel how I feel.”

Co-produced by Andy Mak and Grammy-nominated founder of Deep Well Records Adam Anders, and mix engineered by the multiple-Grammy winning Manny Marroquin (Rihanna, Sia, Kanye West), ‘Mended’ will be supported with a national tour. It will also include Vera Blue’s second appearance (but first full set) at the sold-out Splendour In The Grass festival. 


'image description'Ukulele Jay caused a splash in the music scene in Hedland only a few days after his arrival in town in September 2013 by snaring the ‘Most Outstanding Performance’ award at the prestigious Pilbara Music Festival. He did that with the 1925 Henderson and Lewis tune ‘Five Foot Two, Eyes of Blue’. He got the same award again in the 2014 Pilbara Music Festival with the 1927 Ager and Yellen tune ‘Ain’t She Sweet’ but narrowly didn’t manage a hat-trick at the 2015 Festival.

Ukulele Jay plays a wide range of genres on the ukulele, including blues, rock, folk, pop and classical. However, much of Jay’s ukulele repertoire comes from the golden age of the ukulele: the 1920s; the age of the flappers! He’ll help you get your swing on.

In his other guise as Bossa Nova Jay, you might have heard him sing in Portuguese or English the hip sounds of bossa nova, that cool jazz fusion with samba that emerged out of Brazil in the 1950s and 1960s.

Jay also sometimes performs some of his own songs and is also available to join your band to play bass, guitar, or blues harmonica.


It may be set in Fremantle, Western Australia, but Hope St is a place we all know: a place of fresh promise. A place of new beginnings.

It’s a fitting sentiment for this, the debut solo release from Kav Temperley – one of Australian music’s defining voices and enigmatic songwriters. At a time when Western Australia appeared scant more than an outpost at the world’s end, Eskimo Joe defied seemingly unfathomable barriers to take their rock’n’roll paeans to the world, clocking up countless accolades and milestones en route.

“I’m proud of all we’ve done and achieved with Eskimo Joe, but it started to feel too secure,” Temperley admits. “You find yourself backed into a corner with the various pressures, you start playing it safe. And safety is the enemy of art. You don’t come to music for safety – you come to explore the unknown. You come for the danger, the uncertainty, the chaos. I wanted to know that again. That’s what Hope St is about – the beauty of uncertainty.”

Hope St proves a defining document in both Temperley’s life and career – a demarcation line between relationships of yonder and a voice masked behind the rock’n’roll facade.

“This is as honest as I get,” he laughs, with a discernable hint of uncertainty. “It’s terrifying! But it’s also liberating. There was no censoring – no towing a particular line. I suppose you could say Hope St is me burying my 20s and elegantly dancing into my late 30s. It’s about finding a new way.”

These four songs – Hope St, Dancing, The Limit and 21st Century – push into new lyrical as well as sonic territory for Temperley. “It is about being within the hope and the wish of the place and person you want to be,” Temperley explains. “But musically it revisits my past – I found myself drawn to the 70s songwriters I was brought up on. You know, the graceful simplicity of guys like Leonard Cohen.”

This elemental approach has also carried over to the production, which at times feels almost naked – giving us an unobscured and sometimes unsettling view into his deepest thoughts. “It’s uneasy letting people in so close,” he says. “But when you get older I suppose you use music to heal, to help work through feelings and thoughts. I sometimes feel like I’m a war journalist on the frontline, relaying back the honest truth.”

Largely recorded in his home studio, Temperley enlisted Pip Norman (Troye Sivan, Jarryd James, Tuka, Dan Sultan) on co-production duties – a relationship that developed into a sublime collaboration, with Norman leaving his unmistakable and enigmatic fingerprints across the recording. “I would email a song across and say ‘this one is just piano and vocals’ and Pip would send it back with these strange drums snuck into the mix…and of course he was right. You still need that third dimension, and he brings much more than that.”

Hope St marks the first instalment of four EP releases, to be followed by Summer Of Descent, Devotion and Sober. “They all form a complete narrative,” Temperley explains. “They take us full cycle. I wanted to present these songs in a unique format, in a different paradigm – it was an artistic challenge. Each EP tells a different part of the same story – each is a part of the whole.”

2016 not only marked Temperley’s debut as a solo artist, but also his debut outing as a curator, with the upcoming production Songs Of The Suburbs, Songs Of The Sea for the Fremantle Festival: a show which unites some of Perth/Fremantle’s finest songwriters (accompanied by spoken word, film and photography) to share in the songs and stories of their city.

“I feel, for too long, people have thought that you can’t really sing about Perth, for whatever reason,” he explains. “But there is always a connection between the land and the art. Much in the way Tim Winton has conjured up this fantasy realism in his stories, it also exists in music. Songs Of The Suburbs, Songs Of The Sea is the real story of who we are, and the place we call home.”

“I’ve come to this strange and intriguing place in my story, with this weight of history but this very real appetite for the future,” Temperley concludes, his eyes widening in the bar’s tungsten light. “It took me so long to feel brave enough to step out on my own like this.” He cracks a wry smile. “But here I am.”
