Port Hedland Leisure

The Town of Port Hedland has awarded not-for-profit organisation YMCA the management of the Town's main leisure and recreation facilities: South Hedland Aquatic Centre, Gratwick Aquatic Centre and Wanangkura Stadium.

The three facilities form the group 'Port Hedland Leisure', representing the high quality city-style facilities and services being provided to the community. Port Hedland Leisure offers the community different levels of membership, which is valid across all three facilities. For more information on Port Hedland Leisure and its facilities, including operating times, please visit the Port Hedland Leisure website.

South Hedland Aquatic Centre

Located on Leake Street, within the South Hedland Town Centre, the South Hedland Aquatic Centre underwent $10.5 million upgrade and redevelopment in 2012. The Centre reopened in June 2013 and has seen a record number of patrons using the facility. The 'new and improved' aquatic centre features the following:

  • BHP Billiton Wave Rider, the only 'Latitube' wave rider in WA which gives the user the very real experience of surfing a barrel.
  • Water-play aqua tower, similar to what is available at parks such as Adventure World in Perth
  • Pool heating, to enable all-year round pool use
  • Learn-to-swim pool, as part of the 25 metre leisure pool. This addition means regular term swimming classes can be held in a safe environment
  • Disabled acess to the 50 metre lap pool (disabled ramp) and 25 metre leisure pool (sloped entry starting at zero metres)
  • State of the art water treatment plant which utilises the latest technology, ensuring water used in the pool is safe and of the highest quality

Operating hours:

  • Monday to Thursday: 5am to 8pm
  • Friday: 5am to 6pm
  • Saturday: 8am to 6pm
  • Sunday: 10am to 6pm

Gratwick Aquatic Centre

Gratwick Aquatic Centre is named after local war veteran, Percy Gratwick, and is located next to the Town of Port Hedland Civic and Administration building on McGregor Street, Port Hedland and overlooks the Indian Ocean.

With a 50 metre lap pool, dive pool and toddlers pool, the Gratwick Aquatic Centre also has a fitness centre with gym equipment and regular fitness classes (aqua aerobics and bootcamp).

Gratwick Aquatic Centre will be operating on 'peak' operating hours until 28 April 2016:

  • Monday to Thursday: 5am to 8pm
  • Friday: 5am to 6pm
  • Saturday: 8am to 5pm
  • Sunday: 10am to 5pm

The 24 hour gym is able to be accessed all year round.   Outside of pool operating hours and in the off peak season the card reader outside the gym door needs to be used to gain access.

Wanangkura Stadium

Wanangkura Stadium is the Town of Port Hedland's premier sports and recreation facility. For more information on the Stadium, including access times, group fitness classes, history, images, videos and media releases, please click here to be redirected.
