Citizen of the Year Awards

The Citizen of the Year Awards reward and recognise individuals and organisations making a notable contribution during the current year, and/or to those who have given outstanding service over a number of years.

Outstanding contribution and community service includes areas such as; education, health, fund-raising, charitable and voluntary services, business, sport, arts, the environment, social inclusion or any other area that contributes to the advancement and wellbeing of a community.

Categories include:

Citizen of the Year (Proudly sponsored by Roy Hill)

A person you believe has delivered outstanding service to his or her community.

Citizen of the Year – Youth (Proudly sponsored by Itochu Minerals & Energy of Australia Pty Ltd)

A young person you believe has delivered outstanding service to his or her community. To be eligible, the person must be under 25 years of age on Friday 26 January 2018.

Citizen of the Year – Senior (Proudly sponsored by Town of Port Hedland)

An older person you believe delivered outstanding community service to his or her community. To be eligible the person must be over 65 years of age on Friday 26 January 2018.

Award for Active Citizenship (Proudly sponsored by Horizon Power)

A group doing outstanding work or for an event staged in the community during the past year.

Sports Awards

Provide an opportunity to formally recognise the outstanding sporting achievements and pursuits of individuals and clubs within the Port Hedland community. These activities help to create a strong social fabric within town and make Port Hedland a vibrant place we are proud to call home.  

Categories include:

Sports Star of the Year (Proudly sponsored by Roy Hill)

Awarded to a current Port Hedland resident who has excelled in sport at a local, regional state or national level in one or more sports over the past 12 months.

Junior Sports Person of the Year (Proudly sponsored by Itochu Minerals & Energy of Australia Pty Ltd)

Awarded to a young person (under 18) who has resided in Port Hedland for a minimum of one of the last two years and has excelled in sport at a local, regional, state or national level over the past 12 months. Nominees can participate in one or more sports.

Percy Gratwick VC Sporting Club of the Year (Proudly sponsored by Port Hedland RSL)

Awarded to a local sporting club or association that excelled at a local, regional, state or national level during the last 12 months. Excellence may be demonstrated in the areas of: governance, sporting excellence, club growth.

Sporting Volunteer of the Year (Proudly sponsored by Rio Tinto)

Recognition of an individual who has made a significant contribution to sport through volunteering over the last 12 months.

Please note nominations for Citizen of the Year & Sports Awards have now closed. Nominees and category winners will be acknowledged at a function on the morning of Australia Day 2018 (further details TBC).
