Over 5,800 local community responses have contributed to the recent Live It Tell It Campaign – the most extensive engagement exercise ever rolled out by the Town of Port Hedland.

The Town is currently collating all of the data collected during the campaign, which will help shape the organisation’s Strategic Community Plan 2018-2028. The draft plan will be released to the community in the New Year.

Town of Port Hedland Mayor, Camilo Blanco, has thanked the public for its input and interest in making sure the engagement process was representative of Port Hedland’s diverse community.

“On behalf of Council I would like to thank all community members who completed surveys, spoke with staff at shopping centres and attended workshops throughout the Live It Tell It campaign’.

“We live in a very unique area, one that offers a lifestyle underpinned by a blend of beautiful natural areas and excellent recreational opportunities. This campaign has helped to identify the community’s goals, along with future challenges and opportunities”.

“The Strategic Community Plan that will be released in the New Year will capture the thoughts and ideas put forward, and the strategies and outcomes developed that will work towards achieving these goals”.

“This is the backbone document that will guide our decision making and provide strategic direction for the entire Port Hedland community. It is a major responsibility to plan for the social, environmental and economic future of a whole Town and we’d like to thank the local community members for their input into this process”.

Alongside the campaign the Town of Port Hedland ran an Instagram competition, asking local people to post photos of what they believed made the region special. Over 480 responses were received, and the winner was drawn at random. The prize winner, announced on the 15th December, is local photographer Amanda Wehr, who was awarded a GoPro Hero Action.

The Town of Port Hedland would like to thank the following local businesses for their generous donations during the campaign:

  • Ibis Hotel
  • Port Hedland Yacht Club
  • The Esplanade Hotel
  • Dome
  • Walkabout/SilverStar/Provedore
  • Raikas
  • Port Haven
  • McDonalds
  • Ayesha's Restaurant
