Tarp Armor system to bring many benefits to Port Hedland Landfill

Published on Thursday, 20 July 2017 at 12:00:00 AM

Environmental and economic benefits have been the key to the introduction of the Tarp Armor system at the Town of Port Hedand’s South Hedland Landfill.

Now permanently installed after a successful trial, the system utilises a motorised tarp cover that will be fitted over a number of landfill machines to cover waste on a daily basis.

Town of Port Hedland Mayor Camilo Blanco said that the new system is a fantastic addition to the landfill, and will make a huge difference to a number of issues they had previously been experiencing.

“The tarp system will protect the environment surrounding the landfill from excess dust and fly away rubbish, in turn protecting the range of wildlife we have living in this area,” Mayor Blanco said.

“This new addition will also reduce the amount of birds feeding on the open landfill, which will greatly reduce ongoing bird strike issues occurring at the airport,” he said.

“Not only does the tarp have significant environmental benefits, but it will also have a positive impact on operating costs and extend the life of our communities’ landfill facility as it has reduced the amount of cover materials required for open areas.”

The Tarp Armor system was trialed over a section of the Landfill earlier this month.
