Rates concession applications invited for 2018/19 financial year

Community not-for-profit groups who pay rates are invited to apply for a rates concession for the 2018/19 financial year.

Port Hedland Mayor Camilo Blanco said community groups and not-for-profits were eligible to apply for 50 or 100 percent concessions on their annual rates payments.

“In the 2017/18 financial year, Council endorsed rates concessions for 18 community groups and not-for-profits totalling over $161,000,” he said.

“Providing rates concessions is something the Town has done for many years, as we recognise the need to support our grassroots organisations and keep them financially sustainable.

“Rates concessions are provided on an annual basis so applicants who received a concession last year will need to reapply for the upcoming financial year.

“Council provides concessions to community groups or organisations that operate as a body corporate or an incorporated association – they cannot be sole traders or make a profit that does not benefit their members.”

Applications for residential properties, not used in the primary service delivery of the community group or association’s activities or services, are not eligible under Council’s rates concession policy.

Applications close on Friday 31 March and can be sent to council@porthedland.wa.gov.au, or to PO Box 41, Port Hedland, WA, 6721.
