Older Wiser Library Seniors Initiative Launching at Libraries

Published on Thursday, 3 May 2018 at 2:33:27 PM

Older Wiser Library Seniors (OWLS) will be flocking into the Port Hedland Library this May.

Port Hedland Library is launching the OWLS initiative on 16 May at 10:30am to engage with the Hedland Seniors Community.

The initiative hopes to empower people 60 years and older to share their wisdom, passion and experiences in the friendly and supportive library setting.

Seniors will be able to learn about Library services, listen to special guest speakers and spark new and inspiring conversations with each other over morning tea.

Mayor Camilo Blanco said the initiative was a way to support a sometimes vulnerable segment of the community.

“Older residents can experience social isolation and loneliness at higher rates than the general population.

“OWLS promotes the importance of coming together, sharing a love of literacy and supporting each other in our later years of life.

“The continuation of the program is dependent on patronage, so I encourage the community to spread the word to our senior residents and get a great turnout for the first session on 16 May.”
