Marapikurrinya Park Grand Opening

Published on Thursday, 1 June 2017 at 12:00:00 AM

The Grand Opening of Marapikurrinya Park will take place next Saturday June 10, from 11am to 1pm.

The playground was burnt down in 2015, and after over a year of consultation, planning and construction the works have almost been completed.

Town of Port Hedland Mayor Camilo Blanco said that he is excited to see the new park in use.

“It was a huge disappointment when the park was destroyed in 2015, and I am looking forward to seeing the outcome of all the hard work that has gone into the rebuild,” Mayor Blanco said.

“The new playground is not only a fun and exciting activation of the space, but it is also accessible which will allow all of our children to be able to enjoy it,” he said.

“I encourage everyone in the community to bring your kids down to the reopening event next Saturday for what is sure to be a fun family event.”

There will be plenty of kid’s activities, a ribbon cutting, music and a free sausage sizzle at the lunch time event.

The Town of Port Hedland would like to thank Lotterywest, the Stronger Communities Program and BHP for making this rebuild possible.
