Live Streaming of Council Meetings to Continue

Published on Thursday, 28 June 2018 at 11:45:15 AM

The Town of Port Hedland Council has approved the live streaming of all future Ordinary and Special Council Meetings.

Live streaming of Council meetings commenced at the Ordinary Council Meeting held in December 2017, for a six month trial period.

Each live stream is broadcast on the Official Town of Port Hedland Facebook Page.

Mayor Camilo Blanco said the continued live streaming of Council Meetings would enhance the Community’s awareness of Council decision making.

“Live streaming Council meetings encourages a culture of accountability and transparency, with more people seeing the way Council debates and makes decisions than before we live streamed.

“Now, more people are engaged and aware of the processes of Local Government.

“The majority of residents have access to the social media platform and use it regularly. Therefore each live stream is reaching a broad cross section of the community.

“Viewership has peaked at 3,500 views, reflecting the community’s interest in continuing to participate into the future.”
