Hedland locals to stand up to stop violence against women

Published on Wednesday, 22 November 2017 at 12:00:00 AM

A local organising committee is helping to raise awareness of violence against women by hosting the White Ribbon Day March tomorrow, Thursday 23 November, to raise awareness for White Ribbon Australia.

“Over 12 months, on average, one woman is killed every week in Australia, as a result of domestic violence,” Mayor of Port Hedland Camilo Blanco said.

“We want people to know that violence against women in any way is unacceptable. This event will raise critical awareness of an issue that is important in every community - it affects everyone.”

White Ribbon Day, which is officially on November 25th is an internationally recognised day of action and calls upon all Australians to stand up, speak out and act to stop men’s violence against women.

The march will take place at 7 am, starting at the South Hedland Square, with a breakfast to be held at 8 am. This event is open to all members of our community.

Thank you to Pilbara Community Legal Service, FMG, BHP, Australian Services Union, Mission Australia and the Department of Communities for making this event possible.
