Town of Port Hedland Rangers and the Hedland Bushfire Brigade have combined forces with Emergency Services staff from both Fortescue Metals Group (FMG) and Roy Hill to tackle bush fire risk throughout the region.
The group are currently conducting controlled burns and establishing fire breaks around communities, critical infrastructure and camps as part of an effort to reduce the bush fire fuel loads around Port Hedland.
Town of Port Hedland Mayor Camilo Blanco said that it is great to see such an effort going into keeping the community safe.
“Bush fires pose a major threat to Port Hedland throughout the entire year; it’s incredibly important that we put focus into reducing the risks in any way that we can,” Mayor Blanco said.
“The efforts from FMG and Roy Hill along with our own Volunteer Bushfire Brigade and Rangers crew have allowed us to reach far larger areas than in years before,” he said.
“These precautions are essential, and it’s fantastic to have such a large group of people putting in the time to make sure they happen.”
