Students at Hedland Senior High School are busy underway painting the winning Port Hedland entry for this year’s “Banners in the Terrace” Competition.
In May, Hedland Senior High School students designed the winning banner which will represent the Town of Port Hedland during WA Local Government Week in Perth this August.
Mayor Camilo Blanco said the students showed imagination and creativity in their design.
“I’d like to commend the students for their hard work painting the banner, which is a fantastic representation of our Town.
“This initiative has provided young people in Hedland with the opportunity to express their creativity and produce work which they can be proud of.
“I’d like to thank the teachers and support staff at Hedland Senior High School for their ongoing commitment and enthusiasm for this project.”
Kirsten Dahl, Engagement Teacher at Hedland Senior High School, said that the process of painting the banner afforded a number of benefits to students.
“The banner has been a great class project for our engagement students: they are learning important teamwork skills such as negotiation, cooperation and creativity.
“We firstly did individual designs, then as a group selected the features we liked best and put them together to create a final class design which we are now painting.
“Our students are creating something they can be very proud of, and are excited to be representing their community when all the banners from around the State are displayed in Perth.
