Back to Basics 2018/19 Town Budget

Published on Friday, 7 September 2018 at 9:38:01 AM

Essential infrastructure investment and efficient service delivery for the future is the focus of the Town of Port Hedland’s 2018-2019 annual budget, adopted at last night’s special meeting of Council.

Port Hedland Mayor Camilo Blanco said that this is a budget grounded in the expectations and wishes of the people of Port Hedland, illuminated through extensive community consultation over the last 12 months.

“The results of the Strategic Community Plan 2018-2028, released earlier this year, gave us an in-depth look at where the majority of people want their money spent,” Mayor Blanco said.

“We have refocussed on delivering upgrades to infrastructure assets which everyone benefits from, such as roads and community facilities.

“At its core, this budget balances efficient service delivery and essential infrastructure investment with the need to live within our means.

“This focus on asset renewal is crucial in maintaining the liveability and sustainability of our town, which in turn helps retain and grow our population.

“We have scaled back non-essential spending and reaffirmed our commitment to making Port Hedland a place where families, particularly younger people, are proud to call home.”

The 2018-2019 Budget provides for $15m in capital expenditure. Key items include:
