Awards recognise outstanding locals

In an exciting change, this year’s Port Hedland Community Awards will become the 2018 Citizen of the Year and Sporting Awards, bringing Port Hedland in line with the rest of the state.

Town of Port Hedland CEO David Pentz commended the awards, and said that watching all of the nominations come in has been a very exciting time for the Town.

“This is a wonderful opportunity for some of our most valuable citizens and sporting stars to be recognised for all the good that they bring to our community,” Mr. Pentz said.

“Having dedicated locals like this is what makes Port Hedland the fantastic town that it is, and I am extremely pleased to have one small way to be able to formally acknowledge this,” he said.

“I encourage everyone to put in nominations for all of your own local heroes, to let them know how much their talents and hard work mean to all of us.”

The awards are made up of eight categories, designed to recognise our most outstanding members, groups or events in our community:

  • Community Citizen of the Year
  • Community Citizen of the Year - Senior
  • Community Citizen of the Year - Youth
  • Active Citizenship (Group/Event)
  • Sports Star of the Year
  • Junior Sports Person of the Year
  • Percy Gratwick VC Sporting Club of the Year
  • Sporting Volunteer of the Year

Nominations are now open, and will close on Tuesday 31 October 2017.
