Rating Statement now open for consultation

Posted on: Wednesday, 10 May 2017 at 11:19:35 AM

Striking a balance between keeping rates as low as possible, and ensuring that the services provided by the Town of Port Hedland are of the highest quality has been the key focus of the Statement of Rating Objects and Reasons for the 2017/18 rating year.

The statement is now open for consultation, and will remain open until 12pm May 24.

Town of Port Hedland Mayor Camilo Blanco said that finding the balance between keeping rates as low as possible and ensuring that the Town offers the highest level of services has been the key focus.

“The Town of Port Hedland offers a fantastic range of services such as libraries, youth programs, community events and recreational facilities, all of which come at a cost,” Mayor Blanco explained.

“We want to ensure that these services continue to run, so that Port Hedland remains the vibrant and attractive town that it has become,” he said.

“We are aware that economic times are much tougher than they have been previously, and so we have done our best to keep rates as low as possible, while still offering these vital services to the community,” he said.

“I encourage all rate payers who are interested to participate in consultation, we are listening and we will take your feedback on board.”

The most significant increases will impact industry and mining camps, categories that have historically made contributions which are not line with their community impacts and use of resources. Other categories will see a 2.5% rise, which is slightly above consumer price index.

Consultation can be completed via post addressed to the Chief Executive Officer, Town of Port Hedland, PO Box 41, Port Hedland WA 6721 and clearly marked Submission – Differential Rating 2017/18.

For more information please see the Statement which will be advertised in the North West Telegraph this Wednesday 3 May, and is also currently available for viewing on the Town of Port Hedland website.
