Disease Control

This area involves the investigation of notifiable communicable diseases (such as Salmonella, Giardiasis, Campylobacter, Ross River Virus) pursuant to legislative requirements and the Towns Environmental Health Plan. The investigations try to ascertain the origin of the disease in the community, provide the patient with educational material about the disease that they have acquired and where possible implement prevention programs.

Another area of disease control is the auditing of premises that may convey infection such as hairdressers, tattooists and retailers that either sells or makes garden soils and potting mixes. The auditing of the above-mentioned premises ensures that they comply with current Codes of practice and statutory legislation.
