Depot Operations

The Town’s Works & Services Operations team is based at the works depot, and encompasses Engineering Operations, Waste Operations, Parks & Gardens, Workshop and Fleet operations.

Please contact the Depot office on the above details to report any damage to council assets or works required such as potholes, footpath damage, graffiti, playground equipment, street signs, furniture etc.

Engineering Operations: Responsible for the maintenance of Council’s roads, drains, footpaths, kerbing, street signs and marking. They also manage the pre and post-cyclone cleanups.

Waste Operations: Responsible for the weekly household rubbish collection and litter pickup throughout the Port and South Hedland areas. Sanitisation crews maintain the cleanliness of the public BBQs located in the parks, the playground equipment and the removal of graffiti on the Town’s properties. The Towns street and footpath sweepers also fall into these operations.

Parks & Gardens: Maintenance of all sporting grounds, school ovals and public parks.

Workshop and Fleet Operations: Ensures the Town’s plant, vehicles and equipment fleet is regularly maintained. They are also responsible for the purchase and trading of all plant and equipment.

Weekly Rubbish Collection Service: The Town supplies each residential property within the local government boundary (including Tuner River and the Rural Estate) with a 240 litre mobile garbage. All ratepayers are charged an annual fee for the domestic rubbish collection service which is reflected on each property’s rates notice.

Technical Services are responsible for a range of  requests, applications, enquiries, inspections and approvals relating to the below:

  • Road Closures
  • Crossovers
  • Technical Enquiries
  • Technical Works Requests
  • Civil Engineering Designs
  • Subdivisions
  • Restricted Access Vehicle Networks, Heavy Vehicle and Concessional Loading
  • Street Trees and Verges

Major Projects

The major projects team is responsible for the delivery of new capital infrastructure projects including:

  • Parks and playgrounds
  • Road extensions or improvements
  • New subdivisions
  • Stormwater drainage

Building Management

The maintenance and refurbishment of buildings owned by the Town is managed by our Property Management team. This includes staff housing, operational buildings such as Civic Centre, Library and the Depot, plus buildings that are leased to private parties. Anyone requiring maintenance to a Council owned building should submit a Building Maintenance Request Form.


 

Airport Operations

The Airport Operations team is responsible for the day to day management of the airport. Their office is located in the Administration Building adjacent to the terminal and is open Monday to Friday, 8am to 4pm.
