YOUTH CALLED TO UPDATE DIRECTORY
The Hedland Youth Directory is targeted specifically at the young audience and will contain details of local and national organisations providing a range of services for young people.
The project, funded by the Town of Port Hedland, the Youth Involvement Council and the Telethon Institute and BHP Billiton Iron Ore’s Staying on Track program, aims to create a vital and easily accessible resource for young people seeking information relating to drug and alcohol counselling and support, disability services, education, employment and training, financial information and counselling, and legal rights to name a few.
Town of Port Hedland Youth Coordinator Crystal Naismith said the Directory will be a one-stop-shop for local youth, also featuring community and youth related events throughout the year.
“This important resource will be a free and comprehensive reference - not only for young people but also for anyone working to support local youth. It will be printed and made available at central locations as well as online,” Ms Naismith said.
Ms Naismith added workshops are currently being held with students from the Hedland Senior High School to determine the design, look and feel of the handbook.
Mayor Kelly Howlett encouraged young people to provide feedback on the listings to be included in the booklet.
“The Directory will be an effective tool to link up young people with services available to them and will also help raise awareness on the range of organisations working with and for local youth.”
To provide feedback on the Hedland Youth Directory 2010, contact the Town’s Youth Coordinator on 9158 9364 or email youthc@porthedland.wa.gov.au. Local organisations and youth service providers are also encouraged to forward their details for inclusion in the Directory.
