TWO WEEKS OF FUN ACTIVITIES AHEAD
Programs offered at the JD Hardie Centre are aimed to young people aged 5 to 12 years while craft activities at the Libraries cater for children aged 6 to 12 years. Both programs promise to provide participants with the opportunity to learn, be entertained and enjoy themselves in a safe environment from the 7th of July to the 18th of July.
Craft sessions at Libraries will teach participants to make and decorate a paper maché piggy bank over two weeks. All materials will be supplied and children will be required to attend both sessions. The Libraries will also be continuing to offer Storytime sessions to younger children during the school holiday period.
The JD Hardie Centre has a two-week program packed with fun and exciting activities. Children will have access to a wide range of differently themed days including learning to juggle during ‘Clown Around’, impersonate their favourite superhero or gladiators or train for the Beijing Olympics!
Town of Port Hedland Mayor Stan Martin said there is no reason for young people to be bored these school holidays. Cr Martin added that Council’s Libraries and Recreation Staff had done an excellent job in putting together a very diverse program.
“These programs are very different and cater for the various age groups. They give children the chance to learn and do things at various levels,” Cr Martin said.
“These holiday sessions are set up to provide our young community with entertaining and stimulating opportunities to enhance their thinking and promote physical activity. Council is committed to address the needs of young people in Town and will continue to offer outlets such as these.”
Full day sessions at the JD Hardie Centre cost $20 each and include afternoon tea and materials. All participants will be required to bring morning tea, lunch and bottle of water for the day. Payment will be required to secure bookings. Parents are encouraged to book their children in quickly to avoid disappointment.
Children will learn to create their own paper maché piggy bank on the 9th and 16th of July at the South Hedland Library and on the 10th and 17th of July at the Port Hedland Library. Session times are 10.30am to 11.30am and bookings are essential.
