THROSSELL ROAD WORKS REJUVENATE CBD
The most recent works have focused on the installation of a new bus shelter, public seating, stenciling of footpaths, shrub and tree planting, installation of banner poles, and turf installed along various sections of the street together with sub-surface drip irrigation system.
The works aim to complement the road works that were undertaken earlier this year which included full-length lane widening works, coloured asphalt on turning lanes, replacement of old light poles replaced and construction of new footpaths.
The Throssell Road improvement project was jointly funded by Council, the State Government, BHP Billiton Iron Ore and the Federal Department of Infrastructure, Transport, Regional Development and Local Government, with an allocation of over $970,000 for road and streetscaping works.
Town of Port Hedland Mayor, Kelly Howlett, said the high quality redevelopment carried out along Throssell Road is part of a broader programme of improvement for South Hedland.
“In addition to providing practical benefits such as improved traffic flow and driver and pedestrian safety, the completion of this project also represents a major milestone towards Council’s commitment to revive the heart of South Hedland and will tie in with further plans to rejuvenate the CBD over the next few years.”
“Significant funds are being injected into urban renewal projects for the South Hedland Town Centre and this reflects the confidence of the community, Government and industry, into the strong futures of Port and South Hedland.”
