MICROCHIP FOR YOUR PET’S SAFETY
A microchip provides a permanent form of identification which ensures the quick return of lost or injured pets to their owners. The microchip is approximately the size of a grain of rice and is electronically imprinted with a unique number which can be picked up by an electronic scanner.
Chief Executive Officer Chris Adams said “The annual event is an opportunity to provide lifetime protection for your pet.” “Microchipped animals recovered by the Town’s Ranger Services, can be promptly returned to the safety of your home,” he added.
The microchiping days will be held at Council’s Work Depot on Cajarina Street in Wedgefield on the 7th and 8th of November from 9am to 2pm on both days.
The cost for microchipping on the allocated days is $30 per dog, which is a saving of $25 from the standard fee.
The event is being organised in partnership with Microchips Australia and the South Hedland Veterinary Clinic, and builds on last year’s success, which saw 61 dogs and 8 cats microchipped and 35 registered with the Town of Port Hedland.
Sterilised dogs can be registered at a cost of $18.00 for 3 years and $10.00 for 1 year while non-sterilised dogs’ registrations cost $30.00 for 1 year and $75.00 for 3 years. Rebates are also available for concession cardholders.
Owners should keep all dogs on leash and cats in cages at the Depot.
