GREAT NORTHERN LITTER BLITZ

08-10-2009
The Great Northern Clean up on the 3rd of October was held at the South Hedland Central Business District.

Volunteers geared up, slipped on their gloves and joined Town of Port Hedland staff in launching the inaugural clean up event and help raise awareness on the damaging effects of litter on the environment and the importance of individual responsibility.

Town of Port Hedland Community Development Officer and event organiser, Lora Bikic said the clean up was a great example of community involvement and residents showing pride towards their Town.

“The Town’s Community Development Team looks forward to the growth of this valuable cause with greater volunteer numbers during future clean ups.  The aim of this event is to get to the day when only a bag or two or none at all is collected during a litter blitz,” Ms Bikic said.

The event would not have been made possible without valued support received from Town of Port Hedland staff the Commonwealth Bank, McDonalds, South Hedland New Living’s Kim Wiltshire and Emma Radford.
